Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Eastham Forum was held at the Eastham United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on October 9th. President Jerry Gibson distributed copies of the treasurer's report, which was approved by a unanimous vote. Copies of the secretary's report were also distributed. Jerry gave a summary of the year's activities and recognized and introduced EFFI volunteers and the beach cleanup committee (see more below).

Bud France reported on the detailed study of traffic signs on Eastham's roads that he and Christopher Lovelock have carried out. He noted that they had examined 741 traffic-related signs while traveling 740 miles on town roads. They have recommended to the selectmen, police chief, and town administrator that 74 new signs be installed to improve safety, that 30 "blind drive" signs be replaced with signs reading "Hidden Drive," that many worded signs be replaced with icons, that 89 signs need to be replaced, and that many pavement markings need to be repainted. A copy of their report was made available to members attending the meeting.

Vivien Cook presented a slate of nominees for officers and directors: President, Jerry Gibson; Secretary, Mary Goemaat; Directors, Jeanne Cole, Helen Smith, Robert Chesney, and Walter Sebastian. The slate was approved by a unanimous vote.

Jerry then introduced Richard Delaney, President of the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies (PCCS). Mr. Delaney discussed the work of the PCCS. It involves:

• Scientific research on marine mammals, their habitats, and the resources in the Gulf of Maine;
• Promoting the stewardship of coastal and marine ecosystems;
• Providing educational resources that encourage responsible use and conservation of coastal and marine ecosystems.
